Short on players and time, MIT B’s fall to Freedom RFC

Teams:MIT vs Freedom RFC B
Played:04/25/2015 @ Amesbury, MA
Score: 5 - 12 MIT loss

On April 25, 2015, the MIT B’s were defeated by Freedom RFC. Short a few numbers at the start, MIT borrowed players from North Shore RFC. As the game started and MIT tried to get acclimated with the new faces, Freedom took advantage of the disorganization and scored the opening try. MIT responded and Toro, working his usual Saturday overtime shift in the front row, threw a beautiful pass to Gus, who outpaced the defense to make the score 7-5. Diego continued to show his versatility as he played his 3rd position in the backline in as many weeks. This week it was fly-half and he did well distributing the ball to speedsters Thomas and Chris. For the second week in a row, MIT had an issue with a female on the field. This time it was the referee, who issued a yellow card to Jarrad. MIT were forced to play a man down and Freedom scored again to make it 12-5. MIT threatened when Diego broke several tackles for a long run. He found Alan running in support but Alan was tackled short of the goal line.

At halftime, Coach Sean urged the team to focus on the basics that they had gone over in practice. The North Shore players nodded their heads and pretended to understand what this strange foreigner was yelling at them. Jarrad returned to the game in the second half, but MIT were still forced to play a man down, as Toro’s shift finally ended. Rookie Fernando made a try saving tackle on a Freedom runner to keep the score close. The game ended early when a Freedom player went down with an injury. It was a disappointing ending as MIT were still in the game. The only bright side was that this meant no more kicks from Caleb.

Stay tuned next week to see where in the world is (Carmen San) Diego in the backline.
