Score: 29 - 24 MIT win

MIT kicked off the 2011 Fall Season with a tough fixture against Seacoast RFC. On a sunny Fall day MIT came out on top to get their season off to a great start.

The early exchanges were very positive for MIT with much of the preseason training drills coming to fruition on the field. Hard carries from the pack were creating holes which were being exploited by the outside backs.

Hooker Anthony picked up the games first try with a well worked forward drive 10 minutes in. Seacoast responded almost immediately however with a well worked try out wide. MIT's defence was caught narrow, Seacoast moved the ball quickly to their outside backs and their winger finished the move from long range.

MIT responded well however, striking back with a try of their own after some good defensive pressure lead to field position. Several carries later and the backrow had picked up a try of their own. The lead was extended shortly afterward when some excellent running and handling from lock John C put Niall away down the left wing. Niall, showed great speed and finishing skills to pick up the third try.

This sent MIT into the break with a healthy 21-7 lead.Outhalf John G added a penalty shortly aftrer half time to extend the lead to 24-7. The lead was extended further to 29-7 shortly afterward when flanker Frank crashed over for MIT's fourth try.

This signalled a period of complacency from MIT who may have felt the game was won. Seacoast however had different ideas. Once again they showed great ability to move the ball wide quickly and outflank the MIT defence. Coupled with some good ball carrying by their back row and well chosen kicks over the top, Seacoast managed to breach the MIT defence for three second half tries and reduce the defecit to an uncomfortable level.

MIT picked up their game in the closing 10 minutes however and would not be denied victory. MIT ran out eventual winners on a 29-24 scoreline
