| Score: | 36 - 24 MIT win |
MIT's B side recorded an impressive victory in their opening game of the season on Saturday. Following some impressive displays from newcomers and old timers alike the coaching staff have been handed plenty of good headaches for A side selection going forward.
MIT dominated the opening exchanges forcing the Seacoast pack to retreat and eating up field position. This lead to several chances for winger John C, who duly capitalized and opened the scoring with a try following some nice handling from outhalf John and the all-Nick centre pairing.
Indeed the 3 man outhalf/centre pairing axis proved very productive consitently breaking the gain line and creating chances out wide.
Further pressure from the back, lead firmly by their scrumhalves (Peter & Maurice) lead to more field postion and a second try in the right hand corner. Number 8 on the day Oggy, picked up a great try to the right of the posts to cap a fine debut in the backrow.
Seacoast were not to be outdone however and struck back on several occasions with some excellent free-flowing scores.
One of the highlights of the game however was a try on his debut from winger Patrick. Outhalf John sent Nico into space on his own 22. Nico having beaten several defenders feed his centre partner Nick who rampaged further up field, ably supported by flanker Jake. The bal eventually found it's way back to Nico who fed debutant Patrick, who had threatened on the wing all afternoon, to score in the corner.
The victory was complete when Number 8 Anthony finished off a characteristically rampaging run through midfield to touch down beside the posts. His backrow partner Oggy added the conversion to seal a great victory
