MIT A keep their unbeaten streak intact

Teams:MIT vs Portland
Played:04/21/2012 @ MIT
Score: 50 - 26 MIT win

It was a picture perfect day for rugby this Saturday, although a tad warm for the players, the spectators certainly enjoyed the warm spring weather. MIT came out raging, looking to keep their unbeaten spring record intact and seeking revenge over a narrow loss to Portland last spring (in a snow storm!). Two quick tries by MIT, with great runs from Frank O. and support play by halfback Jason S. set the tone for the match. It looked like MIT was going to run away with the game until two costly mistakes from risky offloads led to two run away tries from Portland. MIT came back towards the end of the half and solidified their lead with some great forward play. Brendan B. scoring his first try for MITRFC. Unfortunately, our inspirational captain Mick O. was injured at the end of the half with a dislocated shoulder. MIT came out with the same intensity in the second half but Portland were not about to give up. Some great back line moves led to tries to John L. who ended up with a hatrick for the game. The warm conditions and bone-dry ground took it's toll on the players and the game became a little messy towards the end of the game with Portland taking out their frustration with illegal play. In the end it was another great win for MIT over another DIV 2 team.
