Victory in Vermont

Teams:MIT vs Rutland
Played:09/29/2012 @ Rutland, VT
Score: 47 - 5 MIT win

MIT travelled to picturesque Vermont this weekend as the Fall campaign continued.
The beauty of the colorful foliage and covered bridges did not distract the visitors who got the game underway at a tremendous pace. Strong carries from captain Anthony set the tone as the Rutland defence was breached from the off. Outside centre Matt was looking to carry ball early on also and making great headway. The Rutland defence could not hold out and eventually a try came from number eight Chris. Jason began his near
perfect goal kicking performance by adding the conversion.
The first half continued in this fashion with strong running from the pack presenting a great platform for the backs who capitalized to make great yardage and field position. The only blot on the copybook was the fringe defence which fell afoul of the referee and allowed Rutland to relieve the pressure a few too many times.
Nevertheless MIT completed an impressive first half with tries from James, Anthony and Chris leaving the score at 33-0.
The weather deteriorated as the second half began and sadly so too did the quality of the game. An extremely stop-start forty minutes of rugby feature two more tries for MIT with Rutland answering back with one of their own. MIT were unable to raise the pace of the game to the speed achieved in the opening period but both sides certainly got plenty of scrummaging practice. MIT introduced a full complement of substitutes in the second half including some debutants who showed what they have to offer the club.
Next up is another away trip to Springfield which will be a crucial contest in terms of league position
