First game of Fall '10 season - HBS!

Teams:MIT vs HBS
Played:09/11/2010 @ HBS
Score: 25 - 5 MIT win

MIT went across the Charles to Harvard’s fields on a beautiful September day to square off against rival Harvard Business School in their Fall 2010 season opener.
MIT came out hard against an un-drilled HBS side, dominating much of the forward play and most of the scrums. In the face of some rough play including many high tackles, MIT kept their composure and continued to drive into HBS territory throughout the first half, and did not allow any points from the opposition. The second 40 was again dominated by MIT, who were generally able to control the pace as well as the ball. A late try by HBS did little to dampen spirits as the game was well in hand. The highlight of the match (at least for the author) was MIT getting a penalty 5m or so from the try line, choosing a scrum and driving the scrum in only to have it called “held up” by the ref, then driving the resulting 5m scrum in again for the try.

Tries scored by:
Cody Patrick (Co-Captain) – 2
Ognjen “Oggy” Ilic – 1
Niall O’Connor – 1
Will Vincent – 1 (first try for MIT)

Unfortunately the game was significantly lengthened by injuries- no less than three MIT players needed medial attention as a result of the aforementioned rough play. John, Oggy and Xavier are all okay and we hope to have them back on the pitch soon.
Thanks to Sean, Javier and Jason for excellent coaching in difficult circumstances. Also thank you to all the supporters who came out!
*Due to the lack of uprights on the pitch, no kicks for points were allowed.
