B-side game: New London vs MIT

Following a narrow loss in the A-side game, MIT's B-side produced an excellent performance to see off a combined New London/Coast Guard Academy team 31-0.

Tech started the scoring almost immediately. Hard running by Nick A, Carlos A and others, coordinated expertly by James P at outhalf, set up good field position in NL territory. Frank O'S sniffed out a gap in the home defence and sprinted to the line: MIT 5-0 NL.

Committed tackling all over the field by Brandon P, Ben R and Valla F was forcing errors on the NL side and Tech were quick to capitalize. Center Brandon P showed great pace and strength to break clear and touch down; Frank O'S converted.

Tech were soon at it again. Half-breaks by Anthony S and James P moved play into NL's 22 before Frank O'S (that man again) broke clear down the blindside of a ruck and scored in the corner. There was still time in the 1st half for James P to slice through the home defence and reach the line. Another conversion made it MIT 24-0 NL at halftime.

NL started the 2nd half strongly and battled their way deep into Tech's half. Only some resolute defending and a massive, clearing kick by Martin C kept the Tech tryline intact. As both teams tired, the game became more attritional, though Tech never took a backward step against physically bigger opponents. This perseverance paid off allowing Alan Z to battle over for a final try, his first of many for the club I'm sure! James P added the extras for a final score of MIT 31-0 NL.

A very good performance from Tech with lots of new players involved. Roll on Maccabis in 3 weeks' time!
